Critique welcome on my fright night shoot
Hi All,
This is a little belated but have just come back hols. So this is my first chance to upload and ask for some Critique on my first photo shoot.
I was the main photographer for a regional hair dressing show where the theme was halloween.
As my first ever photo shoot and in the pitch black of the night I personally thought they turned out well, though I would like to know your views in case I have missed something or could improve in other areas.
None of the shots have been edited or cropped and are straight from the trusty S100FS camera shot in jpeg with Metz 36 C-2 flash gun

Been, Seen and left comment
Love the first two shots but not so keen on the third - not sure if its the pose or the model but something doesn't look quite right (but just my opinion)

I think if you are going to crop a shot do it after the shoot not during as the the first and last shots do suffer for it.
To my mind the dresses where wonderful but I felt disapointed at not at least seeing the hem.
The third photo has the left hand cut off half way down the fingers
I feel the crops if you want to crop need to be tighter, If not, show the whole of the model. The center one though worked better for me as the fade to darkness was spot on.
These are all capable shots technically.
The artistry is missing something though. Possibly in trying to get expressions from the models that work.
That is also why I think the center one works better as well. You can see a haunting in the model's face which carries it off well.
As I say though technically I like them. Artistically not so much.
Actually thinking about it I think I feel cheated as each photo has so much unused headroom that leaves the missing bottom thirds more noticeable.
But then artistically, I don't like my own work either so don't take me too seriously
